Why I hate to love Adam Sandler
The first time I had the mixed pleasure of meeting Adam Sandler was in a movie theater in Reykjavik back in 1999. The movie was Big Daddy and even the popcorn didn’t help. The movie was really so terrible that it haunted me for years.
You might think that my short relationships with mr. Sandler ended in that dark theater in Iceland, but fate had another plan. In 2002 the movie Punch-Drunk Love came out. Adam Sandler played the repressed owner of a company that markets themed toilet plungers. It was magic. Maybe I misjudged him based on a movie with a bad script and a bad director.
Later that year Mr. Deeds appeared. The movie was about a guy getting rich and buying a lot of stuff. The Adam Sandler I knew from Big Daddy was back. Then followed 50 First Dates, Spanglish, Click and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. I watched them all because I still hoped to witness the return of the actor I knew from Punch-Drunk Love. It never happened. It is truly sad to watch someone with talent throw it away for money. I’m done. By the way his latest movie Funny People is everything but funny. Don’t even think about watching it.
